Beyond commissioned assignments, Gyaanka occasionally undertakes projects of exceptional historical, cultural or social significance on its own initiative: stories we believe deserve preservation regardless of whether a commission exists.
A curated project begins not with a client's request, but with our editorial team recognising that a particular life, event or institution has shaped its surroundings in ways history has not yet properly recorded.

What unites such projects is not their subject matter, but their urgency: a window of memory that is closing, and a story significant enough to justify Gyaanka undertaking the work on its own initiative.
A craft handed down
It might document a craft guild whose techniques have been handed down for two hundred years but exist nowhere in writing.
A place and its beginnings
It might trace the founding of a neighbourhood, a market or a mill town through the residents who still remember its earliest days.
What makes a curated legacy project
Selected for Historical Weight
Such projects are selected purely for their historical or cultural weight, pursued with complete editorial independence, and frequently involve community participation, families, institutions and local historians contributing photographs, records and recollections.
Where appropriate, a curated project may be developed in partnership with local historical societies, universities or cultural trusts, and its findings may be shared, in part, for public and academic benefit.

Curated projects are never influenced by commercial considerations. A subject is chosen because their story matters to history, not because a fee has been paid.
No individual or organisation may purchase inclusion in this category; a recommendation is simply the starting point for our own research and judgement.
